In the swinging tube configuration, water pressure is modified to achieve the correct flow rate. The tube swings 120 degrees (60 degrees on either side of the vertical) in approximately 4 seconds for a complete oscillation. The entire examination lasts 5 minutes, with the enclosure positioned at the center of the tube.

Water Dispensation: The portable spray nozzle is utilized for larger enclosures. Pressure is modified to deliver 10 liters per minute (within a range of 50-150 kPa). The nozzle is positioned 60 degrees from the vertical, and a counterbalance shield is employed.

Examination Duration: The duration of the examination is one minute per square meter, with a minimum of five minutes.

Assessment: Following the examination, the unit is cleaned and inspected for water penetration. Additional units can be examined at the request of the manufacturer for design assurance.

IPX4 Water Spray Examination:

Examination Configuration: IPX4 examination, similar to IPX3, can utilize an oscillating tube or a handheld spray nozzle. The counterbalance shield is eliminated for IPX4 with controlled water flow.

Water Usage: The tube oscillates nearly 360 degrees. The spray distance is 200 mm, with a flow rate of 0.07 liters/min per hole, examined for 10 mins. The handheld nozzle sprays the enclosure from all directions at 10 liters/min.

Examination Duration: The duration of the test depends on the size, with a minimum of five mins per square meter.

Assessment: Post-examination, the unit is cleaned, opened, and evaluated for pass/fail. Water should not disrupt the equipment’s intended operation or endanger user safety.
